What is the Let Property Campaign?

The Let Property Campaign is an initiative by HMRC, designed to help landlords who have not declared income from residential properties. It provides an opportunity for landlords to voluntarily disclose any unpaid taxes in return for reduced penalties and favourable terms.

The campaign is primarily for:

Landlords renting out single or multiple residential properties.
Individuals renting out a room in their home above the Rent a Room Scheme threshold.
Holiday property landlords.
Landlords living abroad but renting out property in the UK.

Over the years we have dealt with a number of cases where landlords have not disclosed their rental income. Although all the tax must still be paid, a voluntary disclosure will result in a reduced penalty and favourable terms. The interest on the undisclosed tax must also be paid. However, failure to disclose your unpaid tax via the scheme, could result in a much higher penalty and possible prosecution.
